Our book services in detail

From the first draft to the finished product, we offer a comprehensive range of professional book services tailored to authors, publishers, and literary organisations.

Explore each service

Every book project is unique, and so is the support it requires. Below you will find a detailed description of each service we offer, including what is included, who it is best suited for, and how the process works. Whether you need a single service or a complete package, we are here to help you at every step.

Developmental editing

Developmental editing is the most intensive form of editorial support we provide. It addresses the big-picture elements of your manuscript: structure, pacing, character development, thematic consistency, and narrative arc. Our developmental editors work closely with you over multiple rounds of revision to ensure that your book achieves its full potential before any line-level editing begins.

This service is ideal for authors who have completed a first or second draft and want expert guidance on how to strengthen the overall shape of their work. We work with all genres including literary fiction, commercial fiction, memoir, narrative non-fiction, and academic texts.

  • Comprehensive editorial assessment letter (typically 8–15 pages)
  • In-line comments and suggestions throughout the manuscript
  • Up to two follow-up consultations via video call
  • Guidance on revision strategy and next steps

Line editing and copy editing

Once the structure and content of your manuscript are solid, line editing and copy editing refine your prose at the sentence level. Line editing focuses on style, clarity, word choice, and the rhythm of your writing, ensuring that every paragraph reads smoothly and engages the reader. Copy editing then addresses grammar, punctuation, spelling, consistency, and factual accuracy.

Our editors use a meticulous, two-pass approach: the first pass addresses stylistic concerns and the second catches any remaining mechanical errors. We use tracked changes so you can review and accept each suggestion, and we include a style sheet documenting all editorial decisions for your reference.

  • Two-pass editing process (style pass and accuracy pass)
  • Tracked changes in Microsoft Word or Google Docs
  • Custom style sheet for consistency
  • One round of author queries and follow-up

Book cover design and interior layout

A book's visual presentation is often the first thing a reader notices, and it can make or break a purchase decision. Our design team creates custom book covers and interior layouts that are both beautiful and commercially effective. We begin every design project with a detailed creative brief, discussing your genre, target audience, tone, and any visual references you admire.

For cover design, we provide three initial concepts, followed by two rounds of revisions on your chosen direction. For interior layout, we handle typography, chapter openers, running headers, and any special elements such as illustrations, pull quotes, or tables. We deliver print-ready files in PDF format as well as e-book-compatible formats.

Publishing consultation

The publishing landscape can feel overwhelming, especially for first-time authors. Our publishing consultation service provides personalised guidance to help you choose the right path for your book — whether that means pursuing traditional publishing, going the self-publishing route, or exploring a hybrid model. We help you understand the pros and cons of each approach and develop a clear action plan.

For authors pursuing traditional publishing, we assist with query letter writing, synopsis development, agent research, and submission strategy. For self-publishing authors, we guide you through platform selection, pricing strategy, distribution setup, and pre-launch marketing planning.

  • One-on-one strategy session (90 minutes)
  • Written publishing roadmap document
  • Query letter and synopsis review (traditional path)
  • Platform setup guidance (self-publishing path)
  • Ongoing email support for 60 days

Proofreading

Proofreading is the final quality check before your book goes to print or digital distribution. Our proofreaders review the fully formatted version of your manuscript to catch any lingering typos, formatting inconsistencies, widows, orphans, and other production errors that may have been introduced during the layout process. This is not a substitute for copy editing — it is the last line of defence to ensure a flawless finished product.

We proofread both print proofs (PDF) and e-book files, and we provide a detailed error log so you or your designer can make corrections efficiently. Our proofreaders are trained to spot issues that automated spell-checkers miss, including homophone errors, inconsistent hyphenation, and misaligned elements.

  • Review of final formatted files (print and/or e-book)
  • Detailed error log with page and line references
  • Check for formatting consistency and layout issues
  • Final sign-off confirmation

Frequently asked questions

We understand that choosing a book services partner is a significant decision. Here are answers to some of the questions we hear most often from prospective clients. If your question is not listed here, please do not hesitate to reach out to us directly.

How long does a typical book editing project take?

Timelines vary depending on the length and complexity of your manuscript and the type of editing required. A standard copy edit for a 70,000-word novel typically takes three to four weeks. Developmental editing, which involves more extensive feedback and revision, usually requires six to eight weeks. We always provide a specific timeline estimate before beginning any project, and we communicate proactively if any adjustments are needed.

Do you work with first-time authors?

Absolutely. A significant portion of our clients are first-time authors, and we love helping new writers navigate the publishing process. Our team is patient, encouraging, and experienced in guiding authors through every stage of their first book project. We also offer author coaching specifically designed for writers who are just starting out.

Can I choose my editor or designer?

Yes. After an initial consultation, we will recommend team members whose expertise and working style align with your project and preferences. If you have worked with one of our editors or designers before and would like to continue that relationship, we are happy to accommodate that request whenever possible.

What genres do you specialise in?

We work across a wide range of genres including literary fiction, commercial fiction, mystery, science fiction, fantasy, romance, memoir, biography, self-help, business, academic texts, and children's books. Our team includes editors with deep expertise in each of these areas, so your manuscript will always be handled by someone who understands the conventions and expectations of your genre.

What is your revision policy?

Each service includes a specified number of revision rounds, which are outlined in your service agreement before we begin. If additional revisions are needed beyond the included rounds, we offer them at a discounted hourly rate. We want you to be completely satisfied with the final result, and we work collaboratively to achieve that goal.

How do I get started?

Getting started is simple. Visit our contact page and fill out the inquiry form with some basic information about your project. A member of our team will respond within one business day to schedule a free initial consultation. During that call, we will discuss your goals, review your manuscript, and provide a detailed quote and timeline.
